I love the contrast of ornate frames with the undone nature of gestural abstracts. A method I enjoy for smaller works is painting a large piece of canvas, then picking the most interesting compositions or “moments” and mounting those. It’s a fun exercise for me that leaves me with a number of pieces that feel related, but each unique, like a family.
