I painted this as another entry in my motel series — an oil-and-cold-wax study built entirely from planes of color and hard shadow. A pink staircase climbs diagonally through the composition, flanked by weathered stucco walls in burnt orange, cobalt blue, and mustard yellow, with a white handrail cutting a crisp diagonal against the color fields. The surface carries the textured, sun-bleached quality I chase in this series — flecks of underlying pigment breaking through the top layers like decades of repainted motel walls. There's a Hockney-esque flatness to the geometry and color logic here, but the palette and subject stay rooted in the American roadside vernacular that anchors this whole body of work. Painted on stretched canvas (unframed, standard stretcher bar, not cradled), it's ready to hang as-is or frame to taste.
