‘Rocks’
90 x 100cm x2 (Diptych)
Acrylic on canvas
An inspiration of nature and its elements ‘Rocks’ belongs to my Quartz series. This painting radiates an intricate sense of texture and depth, drawing you into a complex, earthy landscape. The rich interplay of warm tones—amber, rust, ochre, and subtle hints of while—creates an almost three-dimensional effect, reminiscent of a rugged terrain, weathered cliffs, or stratified rock formations.
The abstract style allows the imagination to wander: one might see the cracks and layers of a dried riverbed, the erosion of natural rock or even the bark of ancient trees. The chaotic yet cohesive arrangement of patterns suggests the passage of time and the transformative power of nature. The delicate interplay of light and shadow within the piece gives it a dynamic quality, as though the scene is alive and evolving.
I have mainly used a spotting brush to achieve an extra degree of complexity and the craftsmanship, in effect it’s an Abstract Realistic style. The canyon-like look of the rocks
has a beauty in its ruggedness. Using copper and gold to achieve the richness of these natural elements in rocks has been very rewarding. It’s a strong piece of statement.
This artwork invites prolonged observation, encouraging the observer to find hidden details and create personal interpretations. It celebrates the beauty of natural processes, offering a tactile and almost meditative experience.
The final coat of varnish has been given to protect it from the UV rays and keep its vibrancy intact for a long time.
