Original cyanotype painting on deckled edge watercolor paper float-mounted and framed in a 36 x 29" white wood box frame.
The sides are 2.75" deep.
This is smaller than Summer Woods III and Delft Madrone II, both of which measures 40" high unframed --and framed would measure at least 44" high.
This is larger than Woodland Path I and Woodland Path II, which are both unframed and measure just 24h x 18w".
This original one-off is a combination of painting and an antique photographic process, cyanotype. I drew the silhouette of a California native coastal madrone tree branch and painted it in —not with ink or watercolors, but with the light-sensitive photography chemicals used to print cyanotypes (also called sun prints and blueprints).
The blue and white pattern seen in each leaf which resembles painted Delft pottery is really a sun print or cameraless photograph of tiny plants laid on top during exposure to light. If you look closely you can see the outlines of tiny leaves or flowers.
