The Knitty table lamp is stylishly dressed in discarded fabric, known as deadstock, from the fashion industry. This ceramic lamp is sturdy and strong, belying its image as a soft plush object.

I build this mushroom lamp by hand, from clay, firing it just once to reduce energy consumption. Using vibrant yarn made of textile mill waste, I crochet its cover. To finish the lamp I turn a finial from a repurposed bottle cork.

The Knitty. Sustainable fashion, on a lamp.

Dimensions are approximately 10” x 15”.

I hand build simple, clean and colorful objects for modern homes and interiors.

My work is driven by materials and form. I have a profound affinity for two materials in particular - robust sculpture clay and a stretchy yarn crafted from upcycled textile remnants.

My clay pieces are made through a process called handbuilding. I roll coils of clay and wrap and smooth them into shapes. Coilbuilding with this gritty sculpture clay is a bit like building sand castles. I find it very therapeutic. Vibrant satin and matte finishes complete my pieces.

Working with sustainable yarn allows me to relax into the rhythm of the single crochet stitch. This eco-friendly yarn, repurposed from jersey fabric leftover by the fashion industry, not only reduces waste, but is a dream to knit with.

Many of the pieces in my shop are small tables and lamps. They are a way to bring functional art into your home.

I like to keep my hands busy each day, building shapes just to see where they go. The result of this work is often a small sculpture or wall hanging.
