“The Spirits of Route 66, No. 13” is part of Dave Vescio’s Spiritography practice — post-human portraiture where function ends and presence begins.
Discovered within the deteriorated surface of an abandoned vehicle along Historic Route 66, the photograph initially reads as an abstract field of deep black, rust red, burnt orange, amber, pale violet, and luminous white, shaped by corrosion, peeling material, fractures, and accumulated weathering. On closer inspection, figure-like presences emerge from the damaged surface. The image was not staged or digitally constructed; the forms already existed within the material and were photographed as found.
The work reimagines an abandoned vehicle not as a nostalgic relic, but as a material threshold — an industrial surface carrying traces of memory, entropy, and residual presence.
Produced through archival dye-sublimation on ChromaLuxe® HD aluminum with a satin finish and recessed floating mount, creating a clean, frameless presentation suitable for contemporary residential interiors. Signed and numbered by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
Limited edition of 3 total. Only 1 print remaining. Once sold out, the work will not be reissued.
