A lone mammoth gazes across a barren winter landscape into a late Pleistocene sunset in the watchful presence of its ancestors.
In the early '90s, I stumbled on a metal art technique I call heat-colored steel engraving. Since then, I've been developing and refining the process for making single and multi-layer metal wall art.
First, I use carefully chosen abrasives to suggest material, movement, depth, and form. Then I color the steel with oxidation colors using heat from a large torch. This innovative technique produces dynamic visual effects that change with the light and viewing angle, giving them a range of characteristics impossible to achieve with other media.
