This artwork is a sculptural relief that features walnut wood, contemporary glass mosaic, architectural rice paper and LED backlighting. An adaption of a "flint knapping" technique was used on the glass to give depth and texture to the surface. Naturally weathered wood and bark were also used as mosaic elements along with carving. Specialty LED components were used to illuminate the acrylic backed rice paper.

As a long time resident of Madison WI, his heart is rooted in the upper midwest. The perspective that this region brings seeps into his works and mentality. This connection to the land has yielded an ethical approach to building art, giving priority to local and reclaimed materials. His training took place during a ten-year apprenticeship with artist Steven Spiro. He is committed to fusing art and design to help build better more livable public spaces. Much of his work is produced through commissions and is in collections nationally.

Aaron Laux Design creates fine art furniture and sculpture that mimics nature. Aaron's work includes underused woods, such as boxelder, and light to create stunning pieces. Aaron's clientele includes public and private installations across the US. Aaron Laux Design studio is in Madison, WI, where he harvests local materials.
