Two Frozen Decowaves catches a wave at the moment it breaks and holds it still. The stepped, geometric ridges take their cue from the bold repeating forms of 1930s Art Deco - the fluting of a cinema facade, the tiered curve of a Deco fountain - and each panel is individually carved and cast by hand in the Boldstone studio in Bath, England, then finished by hand in a white marble stone effect.
Each panel measures 90 x 15 x 8 cm. Hung as a pair with a small gap between them the composition spans roughly 90 x 30 x 8 cm and weighs about 10 kg, and the spacing can be adjusted to suit the wall. Suitable for interior or exterior walls, so it works as readily on a sheltered courtyard or pool house wall as it does in a hallway, stairwell or above a fireplace. The surface is a hand-applied verdigris patina: deep blue-green in the hollows, worn back to a pale grey-green along the ridges, so the piece reads like weathered bronze and sits as naturally against stone and brick as it does on a plain painted wall.
